What Affects Us Today?

High school Crusaders who participated in the weeklong Crusade Summer Experience this year spent one whole day focused on analyzing important youth-related topics. They researched issues covered in the 2008 RI Kids Count Factbook such as teen pregnancy, drug and alcohol abuse, and school attendance. Then they wrote scripts and created leadership presentations to reach out with information and advice for other young people. Everybody got into the act, taking on different roles and using skits to dramatize real-life issues. It all took place on the campus of Roger Williams University, who hosted our program. A guest visitor to the leadership presentations on August 14 was Jessica Spohn, senior program officer for the Nellie Mae Education Foundation. At the end of the day, Don Mays, assistant director of the RWU Intercultural Center, stopped in to talk with Crusaders about college applications.
