Welcome to Johnson & Wales University

Now that’s a crepe! In a big finish to their April school vacation week, over two dozen middle school Crusaders enjoyed a daylong campus experience at Johnson & Wales University in downtown Providence. Hosting the visit was the JWU President’s Leadership Council, an organization of 65 academically successful students who serve as a liaison between the campus president and the student body.

The crepe-making station, staffed by Culinary & Nutrition students, was only one stop in a wide-ranging Career Fair that Council members put together for Crusaders. Other career fields represented were Hotel & Lodging, Travel & Tourism, Baking & Pastry Arts, Technology & Information, Business & Entrepreneurship, Marketing & Advertising, Fashion & Retail, and Criminal Justice. Crusaders explored the fair all morning, talking with student presenters about their majors and participating in hands-on learning activities. Among the presenters was Crusade alumnus Brian Estrada, who graduated from Mount Pleasant High School last year and is finishing his first year at JWU in technology and business!

During the afternoon, after lunch with Council members at the student dining hall, Crusaders toured JWU’s downtown campus and neighborhood, took part in a “College Life Q&A,” and had outdoor fun on beautiful Gaebe Commons. Many thanks to the President’s Leadership Council for making it such a great day for Crusaders. Special thanks to Council president Sydney Wolf and vice president Falon Chow, plus faculty advisor Laurie Lapane, who directs the JWU Leadership Development Center.

At left, JWU student presenters at the popular make-your-own-crepe station were Cassie Caulfield, Lucio Battista, Mauricio Rosas-Alvarez, and Courtney Reed. Above, baking and pastry students Kara Hranicka and Diana Fiorentino pose with cake, and Max Saltzman and Mike Herbst get ready to talk with Crusaders about their hotel and tourism major.

Crusaders Andrew, German, Henry, and Victor had fun working on their business development plans at the management and entrepreneurship table.
