Robotics Rocks!

Team Unspecified, the Crusade’s first ever high school robotics team, placed 9th out of 28 in the First Tech Challenge, held at New England Institute of Technology on February 5. This year’s challenge was called Get Over It! Teams had to design their robot to travel up and down inclines, balance on seesaws, and score more batons than the opposition.

To start the day, Congressman James Langevin gave the competitors a pep talk, reminding everyone that his high-tech iBot wheelchair was designed by none other than First Tech Challenge founder Dean Kamen. Then the qualifying rounds began! Our robot, Sticky, competed in five qualifying rounds with Zeus, Ninja, Rambot, The Beast, Renegade, RhodeBOT, Silencer, and many other impressively named robots designed by high school teams all over Rhode Island. When the dust settled, Sticky had finished just out of the finals but was already planning his strategy for next year.

A huge round of applause and congratulations to Team Unspecified crew members who competed: Ayl Akinrimisi, Caroline Akiode, Oluwadamilola Animashaun, Alexis Cabrera, Miguel Casillas, Thony Greene, Shanty Pineda, and Michael Rodriquez. Go here to see more photos of them at work over the past several months. We would also like to thank team advisor Dr. Jerry Daniels of Brown University, Zechariah Tan, and Harry Johnson.
