RI Write on Sports Wins Big with Crusaders

RI write on sports - McCoy2

Ed Cooley2What are the elements of a good story? How can I get reliable information to tell my story? How do I get others to share my interest in the story? All of these are important questions for writers to ask – and that includes 27 middle school Crusaders who participated 2 students2in a writing camp led by our great partner RI Write on Sports this summer. They spent 10 days learning the essentials of sports journalism and created their own stories for publication in The Ocean State Writers 2016 anthology. They toured McCoy Stadium (above). They even got a student + teacher2chance to practice their interviewing skills with sports figures such as Providence College basketball coach Ed Cooley (left at top) and Cumberland Little League manager Dave Belisle!

Reporter Tim McKone did a story about RI Write on Sports for Channel 10 and posted the segment on YouTube. You can see his story here.

Many thanks to RI Write on Sports executive director Steve Krasner and his dedicated staff for teaching our students new ways to express their ideas in words. And thanks to Providence College for providing space for our writers to work.
