Our Believe Breakfast Is a Smash!

We held our 2013 Believe Breakfast at the Radisson Airport Hotel in Warwick on November 6 and had a wonderful time with many people in Rhode Island who care about college access and success. It’s hard to know where to start in saying thank you!

We thank our event co-chairs William Hatfield from Bank of America RI and John Hazen White, Jr., from Taco. We thank Crusade vice chair Warren Simmons, who served expertly as our emcee. We thank our board chair Paul Moran and our president & CEO Todd Flaherty. We congratulate our honorees Dr. Irving Schneider, who received the Dr. Americo W. Petrocelli Distinguished Service Award, and Crusade alum Apryl Silva ’03, who received the Distinguished Alumni Award. (See Paul, Apryl, Irving, and Todd in the photo above.)

We also thank our special guest speakers! Norma Herrera, whose daughter is a Crusader at The Learning Community, talked about how much she appreciates being a part of the Crusade family. Lorena Arango ’03, a Crusade alum who now serves as an Advisor at Central High School, introduced our student speaker Alejandro Claudio (at left), who is a senior at Central. We thank Alejandro for his moving and personal account of becoming a Crusader.

We also thank our major event sponsors, without whom our Believe Breakfast would not have been possible: H. Carr & Sons, Inc., Nellie Mae Education Foundation, Brown University, Citizens Bank, Johnson & Wales University, Providence College, RI Federation of Teachers & Health Professionals, Bank of America, Cox Communications, Delta Dental of Rhode Island, Home Loan Investment Bank FSB, National Grid, RGB Architects, Roger Williams University, Taco/The White Family Foundation, and Yarlas, Kaplan, Santilli, Moran, Ltd.
