Title: High School Advisor
Salary Range: $33,000
Reports to: Director of High School Success

The College Crusade of Rhode Island was founded in 1989 and operates as Rhode Island’s largest college access program. Our mission is to promote educational equity and inclusion by increasing high school graduation, college enrollment, and college completion levels among low-income, first-generation, and historically underrepresented students. We provide college readiness programs and personalized advisory services to over 4,000 middle school, high school and college students from Providence, Pawtucket, Central Falls, Woonsocket, Cranston and West Warwick.

BASIC FUNCTIONS: Work with all Crusaders assigned to caseload in grades 9-12 attending public schools in the six urban target districts.  Provide referrals and direct services to high school Crusaders on academic, college/career awareness and social and emotional issues.  Link Crusaders to existing support systems and in-house programs.  Maintain personal contact with Crusaders, their families and school personnel. Act as an advocate and a liaison between the student, school, community and the College Crusade.


  • Identify and recruit students to after-school, vacation and summer Crusade programs. Provide the necessary follow up to ensure successful participation.
  • Provide career and academic counseling to Crusaders seeking post-secondary education.
  • Assist students in clarifying education objectives, identifying financial aid resources and other appropriate support services as needed.
  • Recruit and identify Crusaders suitable for high school advisory services.
  • Form and maintain professional relationships with Crusaders, school administrators, community agencies and other service providers.
  • Connect Crusaders with each other and build Crusader identity.
  • Provide workshops on college/career awareness and life skills.
  • Assist with the planning & implementation of all programs and activities meant to facilitate a smooth transition from high school to post-secondary institutions for Crusaders.
  • Support and assist with academic, cultural and family engagement Crusade programs.
  • Provide Crusader personal information updates to the IT department.
  • Assist with the collection of all required forms.
  • Participate in professional development and program meetings.
  • Perform other duties as required.


Education:  Bachelor’s Degree in education, human services or related field.

Skills/Experience:  2-3 years’ experience in direct services to adolescents.  Knowledge of public education systems, community resources and higher education preferred.  High energy level, attention to detail, time management, ability to handle multiple tasks and strong interpersonal skills a must. Proficient computer skills in Word, Excel and Access required.  Must be able to work independently and accept supervision from Director of High School Success.

Transportation:  Must have own reliable transportation, valid driver’s license and proof of insurance.

Special:  Must be willing to maintain a flexible schedule, including some weekend and evening hours. Bilingual a plus (Spanish, Portuguese, Cape Verde, Hmong, Cambodian).
