Crusaders Get Help from URI to Reach Higher

office visit2Three high school Crusaders were featured in a video created recently for the Near Peer Mentoring Challenge contest sponsored by The White House!

Crusaders Daniel Pires, Michael Jimenez, and Darius Fernandez participated in the video as guests of Brothers on a New Direction (BOND) and Talent Development at the University of Rhode Island. The contest, which challenged college students nationwide to make a video showing how they provide college immersion experiences for high school peers, is part of Michelle Obama’s Reach Higher Initiative.

During their daylong visit to URI in February, Daniel, Michael, and Darius got an inside look at student life, enjoyed meals and conversation with BOND members, attended classes, and even took in a Rams basketball game. College Crusade Advisors Joshua Corria and Joshua Flanagan accompanied them on their visit.

Many thanks to BOND and to everyone at URI who offered guidance and advice to our students and helped to make their experience memorable. We especially thank Luckson Omoaregba, president of BOND, and videographer Kassandra Brown. Thanks also to Tom Dugan, URI’s VP of Student Affairs, and Melissa Boyd Colvin, Director of the Center for Student Leadership and Development, for appearing in the video. We are grateful to Athletic Director Thor Bjorn and the URI Athletic Department for providing our Crusaders with tickets to the game, and to Memorial Union staff and faculty for allowing the filming.

Remember to always #ReachHigher!
