The College Crusade Class of 2016 celebrated graduation together at our Commencement Day event on June 2. Crusaders and families hammed it up for the camera at our photo booth, listened to great speakers, applauded our scholarship award recipients, cheered for raffle ticket winners, and ate commencement cupcakes.

Todd Flaherty, our president & CEO, opened the event by reminding Crusaders how important it is for them to believe in themselves and their dreams. College Crusade Advisors Marlene Martinez and Josh Flanagan then took the stage as MCs and expertly kept the program moving. We thank all these wonderful guest speakers who made our event so memorable:

Patience Adegboyega ’16 spoke eloquently about her experience as a Crusader
Michael Stephens, Director of Recreation Services for the City of Providence, inspired Crusaders to work as hard as they could and to be proud of their achievements
Darwin Salazar ’14 shared insights and advice from his current life as a college student at Roger Williams University
Robert Britto-Oliveira ’01, a member of our first graduating class and a College Crusade board member, encouraged Crusaders to take the long view when thinking about their college and career decisions.

Above, Crusade seniors Daniel Pires, from Shea High School, and Joseph Mendes, from Juanita Sanchez Educational Complex, were honored with the 2016 College Crusade Scholarship Award for Grit, Resilience & Perseverance.

Maria Carvalho, our director for postsecondary transition & success, closed the event by introducing our new College Success program and College Advisory staff members: Eric Calogianes, Joshua Corria, Joshua Flanagan, and Jessica Rivera.

Many thanks to Providence Career & Technical Academy for hosting our commencement gala. Rah-rah to our fantastic High School Advisory staff, whose commitment, creative energy, and caring guidance supported our students along the path to higher education this year.

And huge congratulations to all our accomplished 2016 grads!
