Title: College Admissions Coach
Reports to: Director of Postsecondary Success and Alumni Engagement
Salary: $43,000 to $53,000

Job Description:

The College Admissions Coach is a position at the College Crusade that aims to help low-income and underrepresented high school students gain admission to selective and elite colleges around the country. This multifaceted role involves working closely with students and families throughout the college search, selection, and enrollment process. A core focus of the work will be coaching students on securing scholarships, grants, and other types of financial aid and helping them to find the best match for their higher education aspirations. This individual will also interface directly with colleges and universities in an effort to communicate the incredible potential of our students and will advocate for increased financial investment in them.

Our Mission: We at the College Crusade prepare and inspire young people in Rhode Island to become the first in their families to attend and complete college.

The essential functions of this position include, but are not limited to:

SPECIFIC DUTIES:

  • Use data and feedback from College Crusade advisors to engage students who show potential for being candidates for admission to a selective/elite college or university.
  • Build cadre of high-achieving Crusade students from the six communities we serve to implement a year-round program (tailored by grade) to support and prepare students to pursue admissions at selective/elite institutions.
  • Connect high school underclassmen with specialized college prep programs, summer exchanges, and similar opportunities.
  • Organize workshops for all students and parents on financing higher education.
  • Assist students in applying for merit and need-based scholarships and financial aid.
  • Cultivate and maintain professional relationships with higher education admissions officers, administrators, scholarship entities, and other financial service agencies.
  • Contribute to organization-wide data analysis, research, and publishing.
  • Assist students in interpreting and responding to correspondence they receive from colleges and universities.
  • Assist in the creation and development of a summer program targeted to 9th and 10th grade students preparing for college.
  • Stay current with all scholarship opportunities, federal rules, regulations, and guidelines governing various types of financial aid.

REQUIREMENTS:

Education: A bachelor’s degree in a related field is required. Candidates with a relevant master’s degree will be strongly considered. In addition, candidates must have a minimum of three years of professional and/or postgraduate experience in student services and/or college admissions.

Skills: This position requires knowledge of the college admissions process and the financial aid system. Candidates must possess effective written and verbal communication skills. In addition to strong interpersonal skills, candidates must be able to manage multiple and competing deadlines. Experience working in or interfacing with a higher education setting is preferred. Most importantly, this position requires a unique blend of marketing, advocacy, and the ability to guide students and families along a pathway to higher education that they may not yet have envisioned for themselves.
