Celebration at the State House!

Over 100 Crusaders flocked to the RI State House on June 2 to celebrate the 20th anniversary of The College Crusade and to thank education leaders and policymakers for their support. They gathered on the Rotunda with College Crusade staff and board members for greetings and congratulations from a terrific collection of guest speakers, including Governor Donald Carcieri.

After the speaking program, the students divided into middle school and high school groups and entered the House and Senate chambers, where they were officially recognized and applauded by RI legislators. Crusaders from Providence, Pawtucket, and Central Falls who traveled to the State House to participate came from Roger Williams Middle School, Gilbert Stuart Middle School, Nathanael Greene Middle School, Hope High School, Tolman High School, Shea High School, and Central Falls High School.

Many thanks to our featured speakers for the afternoon: Todd D. Flaherty, President and CEO, The College Crusade; Ray Di Pasquale, President of CCRI and Acting Commissioner, RI Office of Higher Education; Rep. Joseph Almeida; Sen. Harold Metts; Saikon Gbehan, Crusade Class of 2001; Jennifer Wood, Chief of Staff for Lt. Governor Elizabeth Roberts; Janet Durfee-Hidalgo, Education Policy Advisor for Gov. Carcieri; and Mary Demers, from the office of RI General Treasurer Frank Caprio.
