How to Be Serious and Get to College

Sixty high-school Crusaders who attended our Getting to College Conference on April 23 enjoyed a surprise lunchtime visit from guest speaker Todd Flaherty, president & CEO of The College Crusade. In his talk, Todd shared advice about how to maintain the proper mindset and encouraged each student to finish junior year with strong grades and a plan for tackling college applications next year. “We are on your side, but we can’t do it for you,” he told them. “You have to work hard to get what you want and to succeed in your life and career.”

Participants spent the day getting a jumpstart on every step of the college application process, from doing the research to writing a personal essay. Special workshop presenters Ralph Tavares, associate director of admission at Salve Regina University, and Priscilla Alicea, associate director of admission at Bryant University, came to offer tips on how to create an effective personal essay. Many thanks to Ralph and Priscilla for sharing their expertise with Crusaders!
