Basketball Benefit for Amos House

The courts were hot last week at Providence Career & Tech Academy! On May 28, eight 3-on-3 basketball teams competed for prizes in Hoops for the Homeless, an event organized by Crusaders at Central High School to benefit Amos House. The tournament was part of an ongoing community service project that Crusaders are sponsoring at Central this spring. Every homeroom in the school is involved in a collection drive for personal hygiene products that will be donated to clients at Amos House.

Thanks and congrats to all the teams who participated in the tournament: the Bench-Warmers, Cookies, El Capi-tans, Pretenders, Team English, Team Green, Sun-dunkers, and Underdogs. After a tough night of competition, the Bench-Warmers went home as winners!

Special thanks to Deb Bush, Central High School athletic director, for her tremendous help in making this event happen, and to the Student Athletes of Central High School for participating. Thanks also to our volunteer referees: Fatou Cissoko, Lynda Kashouh, and Ryan Mitchner. We are also grateful to Home Loan Investment Bank, of Warwick, which donated gift cards for our half-time raffle. The tournament raised $370 for Amos House. The hygiene collection drive at Central ends in May, so the homeroom competition is still going strong!

The tournament half-time program included a presentation of gift baskets to Amos House.
