Title: College Success Coach
Reports to: Director of Postsecondary Success and Alumni Engagement

Job Description:

BASIC FUNCTION: The College Success Coach is a primary liaison between the student, the College Crusade, and the college/university. They work as a hands-on advisor, mentor, and coach to a large caseload of advisees by instilling a sense of excitement regarding student success, retention, and graduation. Through one-on-one advising, mentoring and small-group instruction, the Coach helps students identify and achieve their educational goals while navigating the college experience. The College Success Coach continuously monitors academic progress and warnings for advisees, and provides accurate, up-to-date information about institutional programs and requirements to the students they serve. The Coach must be highly visible and dynamic through interactions with students and families by phone, video conferencing, text, and email on a regular and consistent basis.


Wraparound services

  • Act as a concierge for students by assisting with administrative processes such as registration for first-term courses, initial degree planning, directing to the appropriate departments for financing needs and act as a liaison between students and other university departments.
  • Support students through the challenges of balancing academic life with external commitments that may interfere with their ability to be successful students with assistance from their institutional partners.
  • Collaborate with campus support offices and assisting students to connect with campus resources.
  • Promote academic success by continually monitoring student progress.
  • Advise students individually and/or in groups regarding general education requirements, appropriate class selection, campus resources, and academic policies and procedures.
  • Assist students through the registration and re-enrollment process each semester, ensuring that they are working to resolve any holds on their accounts, including, but not limited to student accounts and financial aid.
  • Provide general information about financial aid and scholarship requirements and processes, as well as other options for financing education.

Transition support/transfer admissions

  • Coordinate and participate in college visits to enhance social and academic skills.
  • Work in collaboration with partnering community-based organizations, high school academies and institutional partners as needed.
  • Assist high school students in establishing goals for secondary/post-secondary academic progress and success.
  • Provide academic support for secondary and post-secondary education and assist in providing academic enrichment sessions i.e. Common App workshops, FAFSA workshops, career exploration workshops, and financial literacy workshops.
  • Provide initial support for prospective transfer students including credit articulation, exploration of academic and career options, placement testing, and alternative and flexible credit options.
  • Reach out to and maintain relationships with high school students by establishing rapport and trust, educating them on college programs and admissions requirements, and assisting high school students through their application, first enrollment process, and through the transition to college.


  • Assist with programmatic planning, implementation, and evaluation.
  • Plan and implement skills-based programming such as reading, writing, test-taking, note-taking, time management, critical thinking, financial literacy, resume creation and job search skills.
  • Accurately document, maintain, and track all student interactions, information, and progression to Information Systems.


Education: Bachelor’s degree in counseling, education, human services or related field. Master’s preferred.

Transportation:  Must have own reliable transportation, valid driver’s license and proof of insurance.

Qualifications: Knowledge of K-12 and higher education systems and community resources with two to three years’ experience in an education setting, higher education setting preferred. Demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a team, capacity to multi-task, strong interpersonal skills, and a high energy level. Must be willing to maintain a flexible schedule, including some weekend and evening hours. Bilingual/multilingual preferred.
