WynstonWilson.jpgWynston Wilson ’03 (The Metropolitan Regional Technical and Career Center) graduated from the University of Rhode Island in 2008 with a B.A. in Communication Studies. He is currently enrolled in URI’s graduate program in Communication Studies, with a concentration in Interpersonal Communication. Wynston is also employed at URI as a Graduate Student Instructor and researcher, teaching two sections of introductory COM 100.

Wynston has a strong appreciation for The College Crusade. “The Crusade did an exceptional job of keeping me abreast of the opportunities available to me and financially supporting me throughout my early college years,” he says. During college, he also made a connection with fellow Crusader and former College Crusader Advisor Robert Britto-Oliveria, who served as an academic and financial advisor to him.

Wynston’s advice to high school Crusaders who are just starting college is “to take complete control of their education and take advantage of every beneficial opportunity that comes their way. The transition from high school to college can be challenging,” he says. “However, this is the time to adapt to this change and do your best because it sets the foundation for the following years to come. College was the best thing to ever happen to me because it diminished my ignorance on so many levels by surrounding me with vast amounts of knowledge. It has allowed me to apply what I’ve learned in college to give back to others. Also, it has provided me the opportunity to specialize in a field that I am passionate about.”

In his free time, Wynston enjoys traveling, listening to Liberian music, and networking. He has a special interest in creating a scholarship foundation and literacy program for high school students in the Providence school system through a brotherhood that he and a group of college friends created.
