rene colato2Graduating this year from: Classical High School. Favorite subject: AP Calculus. Why: “It’s easy for me.” Other AP courses: AP English, AP Physics, AP Environmental Science, AP French. Junior project topic: Salvadoran gang violence. His focus: “What was being done to address it and how effective those actions were.” Latest accomplishment: With a partner, revitalized a community service club based at local YMCA whose mission is to raise awareness about homelessness among families. Called: Interact Club. Latest challenge: The college application process. Because: “It was an endurance test lasting for months.” Will attend: Boston University. To study: “I am going in undeclared and will be exploring to discover what I’m passionate about.” About my Crusade Advisor: “I never would have finished the application process without his help. He gave me the best advice and helped me pick my colleges.” Favorite Crusade program: Crusade Summer Experience at URI. Why: “I have a nice group of friends, and we all went to it together.” What he looks for in a friend: “Honesty. Integrity. Being true to themselves.” Advice for Crusaders going into high school: “I would pass on the advice my dad gave me. Stay disciplined, do what needs to be done, don’t let anything keep you from achieving your goals.” Most importantly: “Set goals for yourself rather than staying comfortable.” Dream job: “Making sure I have a better tomorrow than what I have today.” What he does for fun: Plays videogames. Reads. Favorite books: Lord of the Flies, by William Golding. Catcher in the Rye, by J. D. Salinger. Biggest unknown about college: His major. Other biggest unknown: “What I want to be when I grow up.”
