Raul Lopez ’01

raul lopezRaul Lopez ’01 (Shea High School) graduated from Boston University in 2005 with a B.A. in International Relations (Business, Economics, and Latin American Studies). “I enjoyed learning different concepts of how the world works, especially Latin America,” he says. Raul is employed as a Business Applications Analyst for the law firm Bracewell & Giuliani, headquartered in Houston.” I like that I am learning a lot of new technology and programs,” he says. “I also enjoy being able to make a business run more efficiently and effectively.”

Among Raul’s most memorable experiences as a Crusader is the time he spent as a member of our student advisory board. “Being surrounded by other people and students working toward the same goal helped keep me motivated,” he says.” I also enjoyed making a commercial for the Crusaders after graduating high school. It was one of those memories I will never forget.”

In college, Raul continued to take advantage of extracurricular opportunities. He was a leader of the BU’s Latino Club, Latinos Unidos, and he joined and provided leadership for his fraternity, Phi Iota Alpha. Receiving a College Crusade scholarship at BU made a big difference for him. “The scholarship was able to open up room in my financial aid that would have normally gone to student loans,” he says, “which saved me money in the long run.”

Outside of his family and raising his daughter, Raul stays active with his local alumni chapter of Phi Iota Alpha and is a Freemason. He also coaches flag football for children aged 5-15.

Here’s his great advice to Crusaders starting college: “Stay focused. There will be a lot of distractions and new experiences, but always remember why you are in college and keep motivated to get your work done. Do not be afraid to reach out to mentors when times are tough. College is not easy, but many have gone through similar things you will be going through. Don’t be afraid to ask for help.”
