Kyara White ’17

 

Graduating this year from: E-Cubed Academy. Favorite subject: “Definitely math. I like problem solving and figuring out how to find the answer.” Junior project topic: Health disparities across different socioeconomic populations in Rhode Island. What she learned: Income does play a role in affecting people’s health. Latest accomplishment: Maintaining high grades while playing a sport and having a job. Also: Getting into Temple University, St. John’s University, Providence College, and University of Rhode Island. Her sport: Softball. Her position: First base. Latest challenge: Balancing all that. Favorite Crusade program: “It was about college planning. It gave me a lot of inspiration and made me feel I was ahead of the game before I even got to high school. I got to bring home a huge binder of information.” About the binder: She still has it. Wants to study: Pharmaceutical science. What got her excited: “I saw the science labs during a visit to URI and thought they were cool.” About my Crusade advisor: “She is fabulous. She makes sure I stay on top of everything and is always checking on me. She’s like my second mom.” Advice for Crusaders starting high school: “Start off strong and keep your grades up. Colleges look for consistency.” What she looks for in a friend: “Someone who is on the same track as me and wants to do well. Someone who will push me and motivate me.” What she does for fun: Watches college vlogs on YouTube to get tips on the higher education experience. Dream job: Working with medicine and maybe in a lab. “I like the whole atmosphere of science and the idea of working in that environment with all the interesting equipment.” Biggest unknown about college: How she’ll adapt to all the newness. Is looking forward to: All the newness.
