Kendal Hall ’16

kendal hall2Graduating this year from: Juanita Sanchez Educational Complex. Favorite subject: “I like most of my subjects, but I’d have to say English, especially writing. It lets you both explore your creativity and think analytically.” Title of a story she wrote: “Sorry.” Which was about: How two people try to escape a locked room. Recent memorable book read: All the King’s Men, by Robert Penn Warren. Senior project topic: An overview of all her schoolwork focusing on biotech. Including: Material from a 3-credit college course. Latest accomplishment: Her participation as a member of Young Voices. In particular: “I spoke in front of an audience of 700 people at a conference in Massachusetts.” Latest challenge: “The whole college application process. There was a lot to it. The hardest part was making a decision between what was a dream and what was feasible.” Was accepted to: Nine colleges. Will attend: Howard University. To study: Computer science. “My siblings are very tech-oriented and are doing interesting work. I’ve learned some coding on my own, and they’ve helped me with it.” Favorite Crusade program: Crusade Summer Experience at URI. “It was an amazing program that immersed us in the atmosphere of college. It definitely got me pumped up.” About my Crusade Advisor: “He has given me really good advice, especially at times I was stressing.” Advice for Crusaders going into high school: “The first thing you should do is join things. Create your network of friends early so you can rely on them later. Equally important is to focus on your studies. Build a strong academic background.” What she looks for in a friend: “Honesty. Also a big thing for me is having a drive to do better. My friends all have integrity and a drive. They want to go further and pursue their passions.” Biggest unknown about college: How hard it will be to maintain a high GPA for her tuition scholarship. What she does for fun: Participates in the RI Urban Debate League. Plays Division 3 softball for her school. Latest position: First base. Dream job: “I want to be an expert at something. I want to know all the ins and outs of a topic. I want to be the person everybody needs to go to for answers.”
