Title: Database Administrator
Salary: $60,000- $76,000

The College Crusade of Rhode Island was founded in 1989 and operates as Rhode Island’s largest college access program. Our mission is to promote educational equity and inclusion by increasing high school graduation, college enrollment, and college completion levels among low-income, first-generation, and historically underrepresented students. We provide college readiness programs and personalized advisory services to over 4,000 middle school, high school and college students from Providence, Pawtucket, Central Falls, Woonsocket, Cranston and West Warwick.

The database administrator (DBA) will be responsible for the programming, performance, integrity, validity, and maintenance of the College Crusade’s data focusing on student records and services.  This is a critical role within the organization as it provides key database and reporting information and helps the organization meet critical regulatory and federal, state and local reporting requirements. The DBA will maintain and improve the internal database, handle the import of outside data from multiple agencies and lead the reporting and data export needs. Where possible, the DBA will introduce automation to reduce manual processes and speed delivery of data. This is a “hands-on” position at a mission-based nonprofit organization, requiring solid technical skills, as well as excellent interpersonal and communication skills.


  • Manage the Crusade’s data systems and oversee data storage, organization, security, importation, database backups, and preservation of applicable data
  • Code, test, implement, and document MS Access and SQL databases using established standards
  • Plan the structure, design, and implementation of the database and database objects such as tables and views and the creation of interfaces and reports to input, import, and view the data
  • Collect, validate and update data from a variety of external sources including partner school districts and state education agencies
  • Develop and design SQL queries to assist with staff data requests and reporting
  • Handle the import of data from Excel and CSV files
  • Assist Crusade staff in routine use of database applications, including data entry and report generation.
  • Maintain appropriate system documentation on procedures and configurations
  • Build technical knowledge of the latest applicable technologies, including SQL Server and Access, and other relevant technologies
  • Analyze, solve, and correct issues in real time
  • Make and test modifications to database structures when needed
  • Refine and automate regular processes, track issues, and document changes
  • Provide suggestions for solutions


  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science or information systems. Consideration will be given to candidates with a combination of applicable certifications, experience and education.
  • 2 or more years’ experience as a SQL Server DBA, including backups and restores
  • Demonstrated proficiency in Access & SQL (Stored procedures, triggers, views), VB.NET, MVC-00P
  • Knowledge of implementing and updating database policy and procedures
  • Ability to import, evaluate and clean data
  • Strong organizational, analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Sense of ownership and pride in your performance and its impact on organization’s success
  • Ability to work with people from various backgrounds with all levels of technical knowledge

  • Ability to recommend and implement solutions for performance monitoring and tuning
