Celebrating College Signing Day 2018 at the State House

Categories

Dozens of College Crusade graduating seniors came together at the RI State House for our 2018 College Signing Day celebration on May 3. They all announced their college decisions by signing a banner with the name of the college they plan to attend! We are thrilled to celebrate all our seniors who are heading off on the next step in their educational journeys next fall. See our online album of photos here.

College Signing Day is a nationwide opportunity to rally around students who have committed to higher education. We welcomed Governor Gina Raimondo, who wore her Rhode Island College colors to the party. Other honored guests were Dr. Brenda Dann-Messier, RI Commissioner of Postsecondary Education, and Dr. Ken Wagner, RI Commissioner of Elementary & Secondary Education. Andrew Bramson, College Crusade CEO, and Ed Pacheco, chair of the College Crusade board, were on hand to congratulate everyone. Rich Norris, a guidance counselor who serves at Jorge Alvarez High School, delivered a keynote that challenged all the students at the event to set high goals.

We thank our fantastic student speakers (at left) – Dorbor Tarley ’18 from Classical High School and Daniel Tinoco ’18 from Central High School. Daniel described the moment in high school when he realized he needed to make a plan for his life. He was grateful to have his College Crusade advisor, Justin, standing by to step in with guidance and support.

Dorbor shared her path to high school graduation and thanked all the College Crusade advisors who helped her along the way. “Go out into the world and use these lessons and values to improve your own life and, in turn, others – just like the Crusade has done for us,” she said. “All of us are gearing up for the next phase of our life with passion, perseverance, and dedication to make it big in the time to come.”

And thanks to our advisors Josh Flanagan and Marlene Martinez for being great emcees!
