Building a Country Together

Group with flagOur annual Crusade Summer Experience program for high school students is in full swing at Brown University! Yesterday we caught up with a group of 26 Crusaders participating in a day focused on culture and diversity. In warm-up exercises, they shared their cultural experiences and backgrounds and learned how to avoid stereotyping others. Then they divided into four teams for an activity called Create a Culture. The members of each team worked together to combine aspects of their individual diversities to invent a country. They named their country, designed and drew a flag with symbols to represent its beliefs and values, and wrote a slogan. Then each team presented their country to the entire group and explained how they created it. During the afternoon, they staged a Cultural Olympics on the Brown campus, competing in games of skill, collaboration, and learning.
