Anthonia Kuti ’03

anthonia kuti2Anthonia Kuti ’03 (Classical High School) graduated from the University of Rhode Island with a Pharm.D. in 2009. “I was good in math and science,” she says, “but I didn’t know what I wanted to do. My friend at the time wanted to study pharmacy science, so I decided to do it with her.” It turned out to be a great decision. Anthonia is now employed as a retail pharmacist for Walgreens. “I like the tasks that I do because I actually use what I’ve learned,” she says. “The team at my workplace is a pretty awesome group, but the customer service part of retail can be challenging sometimes.”

Eventually Anthonia returned to URI to pursue an M.B.A. degree, which she earned in 2013. “I have always been a learner,” she says. “I realized I needed to know more about the business world. Getting a degree in business really balanced my understanding of the retail pharmacy profession.”

In her free time, Anthonia enjoys reading, working out, watching movies, and listening to music. When she has a lot of free time, she digs out Rosetta Stone and studies Spanish, French, and Arabic.

For Anthonia, the best part of college was the independence that she gained. “I was given a list of classes, and my challenge was to turn it into a degree,” she says. “It is a pretty good feeling to accomplish that.” To Crusaders starting school in the fall, she has two strong pieces of advice: “Don’t be afraid to fail,” she says. “And do what you love.”
