2017 Believe Breakfast Raises $55K for The College Crusade of Rhode Island

Three community leaders honored

Providence, R.I., December 11, 2017 – The College Crusade of Rhode Island held its 2017 Believe Breakfast on Thursday, December 7, 2017 at Rhodes on the Pawtuxet in Cranston. The annual event celebrates the dedication of educators, state policymakers, business leaders, philanthropic organizations, community agencies, and families to supporting the postsecondary success of Rhode Island’s young people. During the event, three individuals were honored for their contributions

Paul E. Moran and Simon Moore each were presented with the 2017 Dr. Americo W. Petrocelli Distinguished Service Award, given annually to individuals who have made an extraordinary contribution to the field of college readiness and success. Mr. Moran, of Lincoln, is founding partner of Yarlas, Kaplan, Santilli & Moran, Ltd., a Providence-based CPA firm, and served for 12 years as board chair of The College Crusade. Mr. Moore, formerly of Providence and now of Chicago, founded College Visions, an award-winning Providence nonprofit that coaches low-income, first-generation students to enter, succeed in, and graduate from college.

Rep. Shelby Maldonado, of Central Falls, was presented with the 2017 Distinguished Alumni Award, which recognizes alumni of The College Crusade who have had exemplary college and early career success and who demonstrate a commitment to community. Ms. Maldonado is a member of the Rhode Island House of Representatives.
