Eveling Vasquez ’04

EvelingVasquezAlumpageEveling Vasquez ’04 (Classical High School) graduated from Boston University in 2008 with a double degree in Economics and International Relations. She is currently enrolled at Rhode Island College, working on a nursing degree, and expects to graduate in 2011. She then plans to attend Boston University’s School of Public Health to pursue her master’s in public health. Eveling is currently employed at the Center for Orthopaedics as an assistant to the executive director.

“I am very grateful to The College Crusade for its support during my high school years,” she says. “The Crusader mentor at Classical, whose name was Nery, was amazing. She was a BU alum and was a great resource for me during my senior year. I am a first generation college graduate and can honestly say it would have been nearly impossible for me to attend BU if it was not for the Crusader program. I had many doubts,” she continues, “but the AP books, the SAT test-prep classes, and other countless resources that were available to me thanks to the program, gave me hope.” Describing the moment when she walked across the stage during her BU commencement ceremony in May of 2008, she says, “It was not only my day, it was also the day of all those people who invested in me, and that includes this wonderful program.”

Eveling has recommendations for Crusaders who are in their first year of college. “Talk to your advisors if you are not achieving the grades you want, “she says.  “College is overwhelming for most people, including me, but there are countless resources available for students in order to succeed, like campus tutoring and writing help.” What Eveling valued most about her own college experience, she adds, is “the awakening of my mind as BU professors challenged me.”

In her spare time, Eveling volunteers in After School Arts at Reservoir Avenue Elementary School. She is also part of Love Providence, a local nonprofit.  In the future, she has a desire to go abroad and work in developing countries, a passion she attributes to the development economics coursework she took at BU.
