Sameerah Muhammad ‘03

sameerah.jpgSameerah Muhammad ‘03 (Cranston High School East) graduated from Wheelock College this spring with a B.A. in Human Development and a B.A. in Elementary Education. Before attending Wheelock, she studied for two years at the Community College of Rhode Island.

While at Wheelock, Sameerah worked as an AmeriCorps member for the Jumpstart program, spending time one-on-one with preschool-aged children who come from low-income families. The goal of the program, Sameerah says, is to “build literacy, language, social, and initiative skills in young children.” She contributed over 600 hours of service to Jumpstart, and she also worked at an after-school program for the Girl Scouts of RI.

During the summer of 2007, Sameerah worked for The College Crusade as a Ways to A’s Instructor, teaching study skills to young Crusaders. “I believe that the Crusade helped me get where I am at today, and I am glad that I was part of such a great program,” she says. “My advice to Crusaders who are starting college in the fall is to stay focused and determined to succeed, and to continue on the straight path that they have already created for themselves.”
