Lydel Hall ’03

Lydel Hall ’03 (Central Falls High School) graduated from Rhode Island College in 2007 with a B.S. in Music Education and was honored with the Outstanding Graduating Senior award. He has been teaching music in Rhode Island public schools for ten years and is currently employed as a Music Teacher for the Pawtucket School Department. In his classes, which range from kindergarten to fifth grade, he covers music theory, composition, and performance and encourages his students to explore many genres of music as well as different instruments. “I like the fact that I can connect with students and strive to make a difference in their lives,” he says.

Lydel teaches private lessons in guitar, voice, and piano to students from elementary school through high school. He also performs locally as a solo singer and lead singer of a seven-member band that specializes in R&B, funk, and soul. He also serves as Musical Director for productions mounted by local youth theater organizations, including the Lincoln Middle School Drama Club and Cranston’s Living Arts Theater Summer Camp. He teaches all the musical pieces to young actors and coaches them throughout their journey. Some of the productions he has directed are “Aladdin Jr.,” “Shrek Jr.,” “The Little Mermaid,” “Blue Suede Shoes,” “Seussical: The Musical,” “High School Musical,” and “Annie.”

For Lydel, the college experience opened many doors. “I was able to build up connections and resources that are still there for me to this day,” he says. He also places a high value on the connections he was able to make with teachers and mentors as a Crusader. He remembers being inspired and encouraged by staff members Angelo and Youssef especially. “My experience as a Crusader was amazing,” he says. “It helped me build social skills, teamwork, and confidence. It kept me off the streets and made college an option for me both mentally and financially.” While in college, Lydel served as a mentor himself by working as a part-time instructor for the Crusade Adventure & Academic Program.

Lydel is a founding member of the College Crusade Alumni Association and received the 2016 Distinguished Alumni Award. As the first president of the College Crusade Alumni Association, he has held an important leadership role on behalf of our organization. In his free time, Lydel enjoys playing with his son, writing and recording music, and getting together with friends for basketball, football, and bowling.
