Brooke McDowell ’02

brooke mcdowell4Brooke McDowell ’02 (Rogers High School) graduated from Cornell University in 2006 with honors in Sociology and concentrations in Africana Studies and Business and Organizational Studies. She plans to attend business school to earn a degree in general management with an emphasis on marketing and entrepreneurship. Brooke is currently employed at Morgan Memorial Goodwill Industries in the Development and External Affairs Project department, where she is the Coordinator of Events and Special Projects. She plans and executes all the internal and external events such as the annual gala and Boston Marathon Team.

“I loved my experience as a Crusader. If I wasn’t a Crusader I would not have applied to Cornell, “says Brooke. “The SAT seminars that the Crusaders sponsored helped me the most. The review sessions improved my SAT score by at least 100 points, which made me a more competitive applicant when applying to college. ”During high school, she also made a connection with Crusade mentor Heather Cosimini, who served as a valuable resource to her.

Brooke says that Crusaders who are starting college next year should “take advantage of everything they can. Don’t be afraid to take challenging course work,” she says. “It will only help you in the future. Be mindful of how the decisions you make now will start to influence your life in 5 to 10 years. Now is the time to think about your career path. College allows you to really get to know yourself. You have a chance to meet different people and experience new things.”

Brooke is currently training for an Olympic-distance triathlon with Team in Training. TNT is a fundraising unit of The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. She is passionate about training and fundraising to support people who are fighting blood-related cancers.
