linda blair.jpgLinda C. Blair ’02 (Charles E. Shea High School) graduated from Rhode Island College in 2008 with a B.A. in Elementary Education and English. Currently, she works for the Pawtucket School Department as a substitute teacher and a program coordinator for Child Opportunity Zone (COZ). Linda remembers her high school advisor Gina Rivera as being particularly helpful in her transition to college. “When I was a senior in high school, she brought me to a college fair and spoke to me about the importance of college and really motivated me. When I decided to attend college, she edited my college essay. With her help, I was accepted into the University of Rhode Island with a scholarship, and into Rhode Island College and American International College.”

A College Crusade scholarship made college financially feasible for Linda. “I have been able to attend college without any financial stress,” she says. “Since my family does not have the means to pay college tuition, I feel that I would not have been able to graduate college with a 3.9 GPA without the program’s help. The Crusade made it possible for me to reach my dream of becoming an educator. Now I can impact the lives of children as the Crusade program has impacted mine!”

In the future, Linda would also like to go back to school and earn a degree in counseling with the goal of becoming a high school counselor. She also hopes to earn her ESL endorsement. Teaching children who speak English as a second language is particularly important to her because she was an ESL student herself.
